The Hong Kong Safety Mark Scheme

The Hong Kong Safety Mark Scheme is an independent certification program for product safety in Hong Kong. Being developed, operated and administered by HKSI, the Scheme was commissioned in 1998.

The Scheme accepts applications form and is accessible to all applicants including manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers, so long as the application falls within the scope of the scheme (see "Service Scope").

Products applying for certification are subject to product testing and, where applicable, factory inspection to ensure full compliance with the relevant applicable safety regulations and/ or standard(s) requirements as defined by HKSI. Products certified to the Hong Kong Safety Mark Scheme will be allowed to bear the Hong Kong Safety Mark and a Hong Kong Safety Mark License will be granted.

Objectives of the Scheme
  • To promote the safety regulations of Hong Kong and international products safety standards
  • To assist the business community to take positive measures to improve product safety
  • To raise the general awareness about product safety
  • To promote trade and help consumers identify products which meet the current product safety legislation
  • To raise international awareness of the Hong Kong Safety Mark and of the need to comply with the safety legislation of Hong Kong
